At Select Dachshunds, we occasionally have adult Dachshunds available for adoption. This is one of the most emotionally difficult parts of being a responsible, ethical breeder.

We do not rehome adult dogs because we are tired of them or no longer want them. On the contrary, we love each and every one of our dogs deeply. We choose to rehome adult Dachshunds only when we feel they would benefit from a more personalized lifestyle—perhaps as the only dog in the home or one of just a few cherished pets.

Why We Rehome Adult Miniature Dachshunds

There are a number of reasons we may have adult miniature Dachshunds for adoption:

Some dogs were sold as puppies but later returned due to changes in their owners’ circumstances.

Some dogs are retired from our breeding program, typically between the ages of 4 and 5 years old.

Some dogs simply aren’t suited to breeding but still make wonderful, loving companions.

Since Dachshunds can live 15 years or more, these adult dogs still have many happy, healthy years ahead. We believe they deserve to be spoiled and loved in a forever home, just like any puppy.

Responsible Rehoming Process

Finding the right home for an adult dog requires even more care than placing a puppy. We take extra precautions and ask detailed questions to ensure the best possible fit between dog and adopter.

Each adult Dachshund:

Is up to date on all vaccinations

Is microchipped for safety

Is kept current on heartworm prevention and flea control

Our adoption fees vary depending on the age and needs of the dog.
