Caring for Your Long-Haired Dachshunds Puppy

Brushing

You have options about how long to keep your long-haired dachshund puppy’s hair. No matter how long you choose to keep it, it will need regular brushing to ensure its free from clinging debris–like sticker burs–and as healthy as possible.

Washing

Keeping your dachshund’s long hair health is essential to a good grooming schedule. You want to be wary of over bathing, which can dry out the skin and hair. You may also want to consider using a conditioner if you grow your dog’s hair long.

Long-haired dachshunds may need to visit the grooming salon to get their coat clipped once or twice a year, especially around shedding season.

Nails & Teeth

Regular brushing and nail clipping is vital to maintaining the health of your long-haired dachshund’s health. Groomers will often take care of their nails, but you should brush your dog’s teeth at least 3 times a week–preferably more.
